Caring in the Workplace

The 23rd Annual International UAW Chaplaincy Conference was held on June 6-11, 2010 at the Walter and May Reuther Family Education Center.

135 Chaplaincy Delegates from around the country attended this year’s conference.  The theme was “JOY”-JESUS OVER YOU.

The delegates attended several workshops, such as; Hospital Visitation; Funeral Home-Do’s and Don’ts; Anxiety & Depression; Plant Closings & Layoffs; Retirees-What the Future Holds; and the H.A.L.T. workshop taught by our own UAW Local 31 Chaplain Herb Taylor.

H.A.L.T., is a tried and true slogan that helps us stay in touch with our feelings and needs.  Sometimes the onset of anxiety or a sudden drop in mood can be traced to our having forgotten to eat so our blood sugar levels are off kilter.

Sometimes we may be carrying resentments, or feeling lonely, or we are just too tired.  Taking a little time out from our busy day to ask ourselves if we are feeling Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired gets us in touch with our feelings.
They are conditions that leave us more vulnerable to temptations that lead us away from our spiritual strengths.  Our world today put great emphasis on developing the body and the mind.  And while these are important, we also have a soul that needs attention and care.  We are not just bodies and mind.  And while these are important, we also have a soul that needs attention and care.  We are not just bodies and minds; we are spirits that were made in the image of God.

The soul actually demands as much attention as the body.  It demands fellowship with God.  It demands worship, quietness, and mediation.
Unless our souls are fed and exercised daily, they become weak and shriveled, just as our bodies do without food.  Please remember that the JOY of the Lord is your Strength.

We invite everyone to attend Local 31 Annual Chaplaincy Prayer Dinner on August 8, 2010 from 2pm-5pm at UAW Local 31 Union Hall.

We are expecting god to dominate-dominate-dominate the atmosphere.  We decree and declare a spiritual awakening for our membership and their families.  We ask God to bless our retiree with good health and peace.

We pray that our jobs and our homes be secure for the future and that in all our getting we shall get an understanding.  For ticket information call 913-342-7330 or 816-289-5124.  a donation of $12.00 will be used to offset the cost of this event and to enhance our Chaplaincy Committee’s Caring in the Workplace Training.
